Art Night Access Guides - Curated Projects

Art Night is one of London’s largest contemporary art festivals, transforming the city annually for one night. Art Night 2019 will centre on the first London Borough of Culture: Waltham Forest. The festival will explore the distinct identity and architecture of the area, highlighting its expansive market culture through a series of new commissions along and around Walthamstow High Street-Europe’s longest outdoor market-and other landmarks.

The event takes place on Saturday 22 June 2019, from 7pm until late. Some projects remain open for public view as part of the Sunday trail on 23 June 2019, with workshops and family orientated activities from 11am-6pm. Additional activations will take place in King’s Cross, encouraging audiences to enter the Art Night trail via the 24-hour Night Tube on the Victoria Line. Art Night Open, another strand of the project, offers local galleries, organisations, independent artists and curators the opportunity to take part in the festival.

The Art Night trail of curated projects runs along and around Walthamstow High Street. Art Night Access Guides will be required to direct and assist visitors on the night of the festival, and to volunteer alongside other volunteers and Art Night staff to deliver the best possible visitor experience. Your shifts will finish whilst the event is still in progress, so you can explore the Art Night trail for yourself!

Art Night Access Guides will focus their support on Walthamstow Central Station, the Library and the Sainsbury’s on Walthamstow High Street. This role is ideal for Legends who have some previous experience or a good understanding of the potential queries that disabled visitors may have about an event.

Art Night Access Guides will be required to:

*Volunteer as part of the Wayfaring Guides team covering an area of the Art Night Trail, ensuring that every visitor can explore the trail and view the works they are interested in by providing additional support and information to access patrons.
*Use your training to direct visitors via the most appropriate route, or to the most suitable entrance to any event
*Use your local knowledge of the Waltham Forest area and transport links to provide directors to visitors as needed

Please note this role is based outside so is more suited to Legends who enjoy being outdoors - come rain or (moon) shine!

You will be required to attend a pre-event briefing with the Art Night Front of House Manager and Curators which will take place on Tuesday 18 June, 6pm - 8pm at Waltham Forest Town Hall. The briefing will equip you with all the information you need, as will the festival booklet and map, and Art Night staff will always be on hand to support you during your shift. You will be informed if your application has been successful by Wednesday 12 June.
