Art Night Guides - Curated Projects

Art Night is one of London’s largest contemporary art festivals, transforming the city annually for one night. Art Night 2019 will centre on the first London Borough of Culture: Waltham Forest. The festival will explore the distinct identity and architecture of the area, highlighting its expansive market culture through a series of new commissions along and around Walthamstow High Street-Europe’s longest outdoor market-and other landmarks.

The event takes place on Saturday 22 June 2019, from 7pm until late. Some projects remain open for public view as part of the Sunday trail on 23 June 2019, with workshops and family orientated activities from 11am-6pm. Additional activations will take place in King’s Cross, encouraging audiences to enter the Art Night trail via the 24-hour Night Tube on the Victoria Line. Art Night Open, another strand of the project, offers local galleries, organisations, independent artists and curators the opportunity to take part in the festival.

The Art Night trail of curated projects runs along and around Walthamstow High Street. Art Night Guides will be required to direct and assist visitors on the night of the festival, and to volunteer alongside other volunteers and Art Night staff to deliver the best possible visitor experience. Your shifts will finish whilst the event is still in progress, so you can explore the Art Night trail for yourself!

Art Night Guides will be part of a team at one of the curated project venues, supported by Art Night staff and (in some venues) a Security team. Art Night Guides will be the first point of contact inside that venue to welcome visitors and give them information about the event.

Art Night Guides will be required to:

*Create a friendly atmosphere welcoming visitors to the venue
*Give out information about the artwork or performance in your venue and help visitors plan their night using the Art Night map to direct visitors to other events nearby.
*Ensure public areas look tidy and presentable

This role is great for volunteers who are confident speaking with members of the public and have a keen interest in art.

You will be required to attend a pre-event briefing with the Art Night Front of House Manager and Curators which will take place on Tuesday 18 June, 6pm - 8pm at Waltham Forest Town Hall. The briefing will equip you with all the information you need, as will the festival booklet and map, and Art Night staff in your venue will always be on hand to support you. You will be informed if your application has been successful by Wednesday 12 June.

Your venue will be allocated and confirmed in advance of briefing and further details will be sent afterward.
