Chingford May Day Fayre - Wayfinders

For Chingford May Day Fayre on Saturday 4 May we will pay tribute to the changing seasons, fresh growth, new life, a positive future and historic and modern traditions that celebrate community and workers unity.

Chingford May Day Fayre will encourage visitors to cycle to Chingford Plain on a special road route decorated with entertainments from the Bicycle Ballet Company. Upon arrival at Chingford Plain, visitors are invited to help build our May Day bonfire, make kindling and fear masks, visit the Wise Woman of the Forest, and go back to basics with a day out in the Forest with music, song and pageantry. The day will conclude with a coming together of all for a Feast on the Plain before we ceremonially burn our fears of the years past and kindle our hopes for the year to come.

This role is pivotal to aiding the mass of cyclists to Chingford and is ideal for Legends with a good knowledge of the local area to support visitors cycling to the site.

Your role as a Wayfinder will include:
* To marshal the cycle route towards Chingford on foot. You will inform visitors about the event and provide directions through to the event site as needed
* Familiarising yourself with your immediate location and answer questions from visitors and members of the public using your local knowledge of the area
* Welcoming visitors to the event with high energy creating an inviting and friendly atmosphere
* Advising pedestrians and cyclists on busy junctions
* Giving out promotional materials for London Borough of Culture events

If you are accepted onto this role, you will be required to attend a pre-event briefing from 2pm – 3.30pm on Sunday 28 April at Chingford Plain. Please get in touch with wflegends@groundwork.org.uk if you are unable to attend as we can make alternative arrangements, and you will still be able to volunteer.

Applications for the role close at 9am on Tuesday 23 April. We will confirm if you have been accepted onto the role on Wednesday 24 April.
