Chingford May Day Fayre: Waste Warriors
For Chingford May Day Fayre on Saturday 4 May we will pay tribute to the changing seasons, fresh growth, new life, a positive future and historic and modern traditions that celebrate community and workers unity.
Chingford May Day Fayre will encourage visitors to cycle to Chingford Plain on a special road route decorated with entertainments from the Bicycle Ballet Company. Upon arrival at Chingford Plain, visitors are invited to help build our May Day bonfire, make kindling and fear masks, visit the Wise Woman of the Forest, and go back to basics with a day out in the Forest with music, song and pageantry. The day will conclude with a coming together of all for a Feast on the Plain before we ceremonially burn our fears of the years past and kindle our hopes for the year to come.
Waste Warrior Volunteers are needed on three dates: Saturday 4 May, Sunday 5 May (12pm - 2pm) and Tuesday 7 May (12pm - 2pm). Legends volunteering on the Sunday or Tuesday do not need to attend the pre-event briefing.
Waste Warrior Volunteers will have a key role at Chingford May Day Fayre in increasing the use of recycling bins, improving the quality of materials which get recycled, managing litter, and aiding with Chingford May Day Fayre event waste composition analysis. If you are community minded, passionate about recycling and the environment, and want to learn more about a large-scale recycling programme, this is the opportunity for you!
Each Volunteer Waste Warrior will work in pairs and be assigned specific duties, including:
* Litter picking
* Recycling pod management
* Identifying hotspots for litter dropping
* Carrying out a waste composition analysis
* Providing information to visitors on good recycling practice
Applications for the Saturday role close at 9am on Tuesday 23 April. We will confirm if you have been accepted onto the role on Wednesday 24 April. Applications for Sunday and Tuesday are ongoing.
Those volunteering on Saturday 4 May, who have been accepted onto the role, will be required to attend a pre-event briefing from 2pm – 3.30pm on Sunday 28 April at Chingford Plain. Please get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org if you are unable to attend as we can make alternative arrangements, and you will still be able to volunteer.
