Art Night Team Leaders - Curated Projects

Art Night is one of London’s largest contemporary art festivals, transforming the city annually for one night. Art Night 2019 will centre on the first London Borough of Culture: Waltham Forest. The festival will explore the distinct identity and architecture of the area, highlighting its expansive market culture through a series of new commissions along and around Walthamstow High Street-Europe’s longest outdoor market-and other landmarks.

The event takes place on Saturday 22 June 2019, from 7pm until late. Some projects remain open for public view as part of the Sunday trail on 23 June 2019, with workshops and family orientated activities from 11am-6pm. Additional activations will take place in King’s Cross, encouraging audiences to enter the Art Night trail via the 24-hour Night Tube on the Victoria Line. Art Night Open, another strand of the project, offers local galleries, organisations, independent artists and curators the opportunity to take part in the festival.

The Art Night trail of curated projects runs along and around Walthamstow High Street. Art Night Team Leaders will be required to direct and assist visitors on the night of the festival, and to volunteer alongside other volunteers and Art Night staff to deliver the best possible visitor experience. Your shifts will finish whilst the event is still in progress, so you can explore the Art Night trail for yourself!

Working alongside an Art Night Duty Manager, Art Night Team Leaders will lead a small team of volunteers at one of the curated project venues. Your team will be the first point of contact for visitors at that venue, so it’s essential they are confident and knowledgeable about the event. Please note this role requires Legends to have undertaken a Team Leader briefing.

Art Night Team Leaders will be required to:

*Attend a site walk with the Art Night Front of House Manager and the rest of the Duty Team a day in advance of the event, to understand the layout and requirements of your venue
*Meet and brief your team on the event night, ensuring your team welcome and deliver information to visitors throughout Art Night
*Be reactive to the event environment and relay any feedback, challenges or concerns to Art Night Duty Manager or Front of House Manager
*Look after the welfare of your team, managing breaks for your team throughout the event, helping to keep morale and energy high

You will be required to attend a pre-event briefing with the Art Night Front of House Manager and Curators which will take place on Tuesday 18 June, 6pm - 8pm at Waltham Forest Town Hall. The briefing will equip you with all the information you need to brief your team, as will the festival booklet and map, and Art Night staff in your venue will always be on hand to support you.

Your venue will be allocated and confirmed in advance of briefing and further details will be sent to you afterwards. You will be informed if your application has been successful by Wednesday 12 June.

This role is suitable for trained Team Leaders only.

The next Legends Team Leader briefing is at One Hoe Street on Thursday 18 April 6.30pm to 8.30pm. You are eligible if you have completed three volunteer shifts thus far. To book your place on the briefing please email wflegends@groundwork.org.uk.
