Chingford May Day Fayre - Welcoming Volunteers

For Chingford May Day Fayre on Saturday 4 May, we pay tribute to the changing seasons, fresh growth, new life, a positive future and historic and modern traditions that celebrate community and workers unity.

Chingford May Day Fayre encourages visitors to cycle to Chingford Plain on a special road route decorated with enchantments from the Bicycle Ballet Company. At Chingford Plain, visitors are invited to build our May Day bonfire, make kindling and fear masks and visit the Wise Woman of the Forest. It will be an opportunity to go back to basics with a day in the Forest with music, song and pageantry. The day will conclude with a Feast on the Plain before we ceremonially burn our fears and kindle our hopes for the year to come.

Come along and welcome visitors to Chingford May Day Fayre. This fantastic event requires Welcoming Volunteers to greet visitors to Chingford Plains as they arrive by foot or bike and provide a warm and friendly atmosphere at this family day out.

Your role as a Welcoming Volunteer will include:
•Welcome visitors to the event creating an inviting and friendly atmosphere
•Provide parents and guardians with wristbands for children
•Inform visitors about the event, the timings and access to facilities
•Be available to answer questions from visitors
•Support visitors with identifying free bike parking locations in the bike park
•Hand out London Borough of Culture event materials and promote future events

If you are accepted onto this role, you will be required to attend a pre-event briefing from 2pm – 3.30pm on Sunday 28 April on Chingford Plain. Please get in touch with wflegends@groundwork.org.uk if you are unable to attend as we can make alternative arrangements, and you will still be able to volunteer.

Applications for the role close at 9am on Tuesday 23 April. We will confirm if you have been accepted onto the role on Wednesday 24 April.
