Chingford May Day Fare - Site Host Volunteers

For Chingford May Day Fayre on Saturday 4 May, we pay tribute to the changing seasons, fresh growth, new life, a positive future and historic and modern traditions that celebrate community and workers unity.

Chingford May Day Fayre encourages visitors to cycle to Chingford Plain on a special road route decorated with enchantments from the Bicycle Ballet Company. At Chingford Plain, visitors are invited to build our May Day bonfire, make kindling and fear masks and visit the Wise Woman of the Forest. It will be an opportunity to go back to basics with a day in the Forest with music, song and pageantry. The day will conclude with a Feast on the Plain before we ceremonially burn our fears and kindle our hopes for the year to come.

Come and support in the build-up to Chingford May Day Fayre. The week beforehand, the Plain will be open and a series of creative workshops will be held with local people, inviting them to work together to create kindling and fear masks which will be featured in Saturday’s event. As a Site Host, you will engage visitors who are running or dog-walking on Chingford Plain in the run-up to Chingford May Day Fayre and invite them to participate in workshops. Volunteers will be asked to help with running local errands to support in the set-up of the event.

Your role as a Site Host Volunteer will include:
•Greet visitors on the plain creating an inviting and friendly atmosphere
•Be the point of contact for visitors on Chingford Plain to answer questions
•Meet and greet local community groups attending the workshops
•Inform visitors about the event and timings
•Run local errands supporting in the set-up of the event
